i went to plunket today. it didn't go well. my baby is four and a half months old.......and i confess to have stopped breastfeeding around three weeks ago. to cut a long story short, i really did think that it was in the best interest of my family, turns out that i was wrong. while it helped stop some of the stress......it appears to have done damage to my baby. in three weeks he has gained a phenomonal amount of weight, not taking into account the weight gained while still breastfed. partly due to the fact that he should only be having five bottles a day but he is insisting on having at least six, but usually seven or eight. at three months he weighed 15lb 15oz and i wasn't worried since he breastfed. but now at four and half months he weighs 19lbs 20oz. five pounds (or around two kilos) in a month......that is phenomonal right? well its enough to have the health professionals worried. the advice they have given me is: - stop feeding him at night (he currently wakes anywhere from two to three times). basically just refuse. they say that he's eating out of habit and for comfort, not because he's hungry. that at four and a half months he doesn't need to be fed at night.....while i disagree on this for breastfed babies, im not sure about formula. and i dont like the idea anyways.... - give him less milk in the bottle. he seriously skulls it back pretty much everytime....i really think he's be hungry. - or try and get my breast milk back. and this is in addition to introducing solids early (now) however, i was also wondering if perhaps someone could recommend a different formula. currently he is on nurture plus which is supposed to be for hungrier babies, but it hasn't really decreased his feeds. would maybe a soy based formula help? i dont really know much about formulas. any help would be really appreciated
